National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) + Libraries

National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday celebrating our democracy. According to U.S. Census data from 2020, as many as 1 in 4 eligible Americans are not registered to vote. Every year, millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration, or aren’t sure how to register. National Voter Registration Day efforts are designed to ensure every eligible voter has the opportunity to vote, creating broad awareness of voter registration opportunities to reach tens of thousands of voters who may not register otherwise. Libraries can play a significant role in ensuring that their communities are ready to vote on election day by participating in NVRD. This session will discuss how libraries can participate and make it successful holiday by helping voters get prepared for November's Election.

About National Voter Registration Day

National Voter Registration Day is the country’s largest single-day voter registration drive and will next take place on September 17, 2024! Each year, millions of Americans are walled off from the democratic process due to easily solvable issues such as missing a registration deadline or failing to update a registration after moving. It’s this reality that brought National Voter Registration Day into existence in 2012, and has kept it going strong ever since.
