About Gavin Downing
Gavin Downing is a high school librarian and the 2022 recipient of the Candace P. Morgan Intellectual Freedom Award. In 2022, he faced a book challenge led from his own principal, along with six months of an increasingly hostile working environment. The book challenge was defeated, and he transferred to a different school. Today, he serves as the chair for Washington Library Association's Intellectual Freedom Section.
