Book banning, education gag orders, attacks on libraries and public schools as institutions--behind all of these is an effort to roll back the civil rights gains of the last 50 years, reasserting racial and economic hierarchies and constraining what's possible for young people. The good news (there is some!) is that turning back the clock is a deeply unpopular project that is inspiring new activism across the country.
